10 Nov Trophy at the 2023 Australian/NZ Boutique Wine Show

Kings of Kangaroo Ground have been awarded the Trophy for Best Red Blend (Class 17) at the 2023 Australian/New Zealand Boutique Wine Show in Sydney.

Our 2021 KG Red (75% Shiraz/25% Cabernet blend) was crafted this vintage using fruit from the Coliban Glen vineyard in Heathcote. This vineyard, owned and managed by our good mate Peter Raeburn, has been the source of our Heathcote fruit since 2013.

2021 was an excellent vintage in Heathcote, with our Shiraz harvested in mid March, followed by the Cabernet in mid April. Each variety went out to seasoned French and American oak casks for 12 months, then was blended together just before bottling. This wine was blended from older barrels, resulting in a fruit driven wine, but with great balance and intensity of fruit.

The wine is drinking beautifully now, but we expect it to cellar well in the medium term over the next 4 – 8 years.
