Pinot Noir Gold at 2019 Boutique Wine Show

Kings of Kangaroo Ground have been awarded a Gold Medal at the 2019 Australia/New Zealand Boutique Wine Show in Sydney for our 2018 “Thirteen31” Pinot Noir.

This show, with Huon Hooke as Awards Chairman, defines “bouqitue” as a wine company which crushes and bottles 250 ton or less annually under its own label and is owned independently, i.e., not owned by a larger wine company.

For two blokes in a shed from Kangaroo Ground who crush less than 20 tons each vintage, we are pretty happy to be recognised up there with some of the more well known boutique brands across Australia and New Zealand.

2018 was a humid vintage in early summer, with some challenges in keeping the vineyard a picture of health. We harvested in ideal weather on the 9th March 2018, with the fruit coming out of the vineyard in top condition. After a 10 day fermentation on skins, the wine was matured in four French oak puncheons (one new) for 9 months, before being clarified and bottled in May 2019.

The wine presents with an aromatic nose of red cherry and strawberry with spicy notes. The palate has varietal fruit flavours with lovely mouth feel, soft tannins and a lingering finish.

Our 2018 “Thirteen31” Pinot Noir is now available at Cellar Door (not currently available through our Web shop – call or email us if you can’t make it out to Kangaroo Ground).
